Jayla is most appreciative to receive the 2022 Bart Allen Memorial Scholarship and would like to thank the SWPA board members and staff. She stated, “To receive this scholarship is such a blessing, and I am so thankful. I would not be here without my family’s guidance and my faith in the Lord.”

Jonah Durrence of Glennville, GA

Son of Ginger and Clint Durrence
Grandson of Joy and  Ricky Wilson
Wilson Brothers Timber Company - Glennville, GA

I am the 18 year-old son of Clint and Ginger Durrence. My grandfather (Pa) is Ricky Wilson, owner of Wilson Brothers Timber Company in Glennville, GA. My Pa has worked hard to have a successful logging business. His success has allowed him the opportunity to help others, and he has taught me that true joy comes from helping other people. Being outdoors is a big part of my life. I love to hunt and fish, and I have been a competitive archer since I was in the fifth grade. Currently, I am a National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador which has allowed me to speak to various groups about the importance of shooting sports and the benefit of having them in school.

I am a senior at Tattnall County High School and dual-enrolled at Georgia Southern University where I am already in the Construction Management Program. I am employed at the Georgia Southern University Shooting Sports Education Center where I am the Teacher Assistant for the college level archery classes, instructor for youth archery classes, and I have just begun to teach firearms classes since I turned 18. When I graduate from Georgia Southern, I plan to work for a construction business to gain experience and then start a business of my own. I would love to give back to my small community by helping people build their dream homes and businesses.
